Everything you require from a Microlight Centre can be found at Deenethorpe Aerodrome. We are proud to be the
longest established microlight flying school in Northamptonshire. Our success has been built on providing quality service
at competitive prices without compromise. Your learning experience is important to us, as is our pleasure when we send you
on your unforgettable first solo flight!
A National Private Pilot Licence (NPPL) Microlight licence is required to fly a microlight aircraft. The training required has
to be taken with a qualified flying instructor following the Civil Aviation Authority syllabus
of training. Your Instructor is examined every two years to ensure that you receive the best quality training.
The minimum requirements for the licence are:
25 hours total flying time
Including:
10 hours of solo flight with two cross country
flights of 40 miles.
A restricted licence with reduced requirements of 15 hours in total of which 7 need to be solo is also possible.
The main restriction of this licence is that flight is restricted to the local area. In both cases you will need to pass a
General Skills Test, much the same as taking a driving test. The licence also requires that you pass 5 exams in the following
subjects:-
Principles of flight
Air law
Navigation
Meteorology
Human factors
If the thought of exams
concerns you, rest assured that our pass rate in both theory and practical tests is 100%, we see no reason why this should
change!
The
licence requirements are minimums
and do not guarantee a pass. People are different, learning at different rates so times do vary. Anyone with determination
plus a little application should be able to gain their wings and introduce many
delighted passengers to this fantastic sport!
